Victims identified in fiery highway 17 crash


On September 5, 2016 at approximately 7:30 a.m., members of the Wawa Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 approximately 20 kilometres west of Wawa near Catfish Lake.

Investigation determined that the vehicle crashed into a rock cut resulting in the death of four people. With the assistance of the Ontario Forensic Pathology Services in Toronto all four victims have now been identified as follows:

– Gerardo LAGOS (59) of Winnipeg Manitoba,

– Ricardo LAGOS-HOULE (14) of Oshawa Ontario,

– Rafael RAMIREZ (53) of Winnipeg Manitoba,

– Santiago SALINAS (60) of Winnipeg Manitoba.
