The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board (HSCDSB) is mourning the tragic loss of one of its students.
Colin Desmoulin, a Grade 12 student at St. Mary’s College, died Monday evening, as the result of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 17 north of Sault Ste. Marie.
It has been a very sad day for the St. Mary’s College school community and at Holy Family Catholic School, the elementary school Desmoulin graduated from a few years ago.
“The entire school community is in shock after hearing the news of Colin’s tragic death. Colin was a very active member of the St. Mary’s College community and will be missed dearly by those who knew him best. Colin played on the SMC hockey team and his teammates and the team staff are particularly devastated by this,” said St. Mary’s College Principal, Cindy Sawyer.
St. Mary’s College Chaplain Stephanie Parniak and Board counsellors were at the school all day Tuesday to help students deal with their grief. They will continue to provide assistance, as needed, over the coming days.
“We are doing our utmost to offer our students whatever support they may need,” said Sawyer.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Colin’s family and the St. Mary’s College community. The loss of anyone in such tragic circumstances is very devastating. The loss of a young person, like Colin, can be even more difficult to comprehend,” said HSCDSB Director of Education, John Stadnyk.
