City council discussed briefly tonight and through ongoing public intervention by way of town meetings and online forums which will end Nov. 30th, should city council be downsized?
No decision was made tonight pending public input.
The decision to be made is:
- maintain Status quo – Mayor elected at large; 6 wards; 2 councillors/ward (12)
- Mayor elected at large; fewer wards; 2 councillors/ward
- Mayor elected at large; 6 wards; 1 councillor/ward (would require additional administrative assistance and dedicated office space for ward Councillor)
The current pay is:
- Mayor – $70,756/year
- Councillors – $22,738/year
What are your thoughts?
Imagine Councillor Fata attends 26-2hr council mtgs / yr. He works a total of 52 hrs a year or makes an average of $500.00/hr. thats a heck of a lot more then the firemen he is trying so desperately hack and slash….
Must be nice to make $70,000 for a part time job!!!
