As the first major winter storm hits Northeastern Ontario, OPP advise that Highway 17 north at White River has been closed due to weather conditions.

A fierce winter storm is quickly moving into the area. The areas hardest hit will remain north of Sault Ste. Marie, however a quick temperature drop may result in slippery conditions developing. Temperatures are expected to drop to about -8c tonight with strong north winds.

OPP say it is uncertain how long the highway will be impacted.
