A Christmas storm is brewing

It looks like Santa may bring a mixed bag of weather come Christmas Day for much of the area. A big disturbance is moving into the great lakes region Sunday night that could bring snow and rain or freezing rain for several hours leading to tricky traveling.

Special weather statement in effect for:

Agawa – Lake Superior Park
Sault Ste. Marie – St. Joseph Island
Searchmont – Montreal River Harbour – Batchawana Bay

Winter storm potentially starting late Christmas night or Boxing Day.
A Colorado low is expected to track across the Dakotas Christmas Day and Northwestern Ontario Boxing Day. It is forecast to bring a wintery mix of snow, ice pellets and freezing rain for many regions including much of Northeastern and Eastern Ontario. It will likely change to rain Boxing Day as well, before tapering off to some snow or flurries on the night of Boxing Day. The only exception may be Far Northeastern Ontario which would likely remain as snow.

Motorists should take this into consideration when making their Christmas season plans.
