Warning over: Heavy amounts of Freezing rain / Ice Possible


UPDATEl Environment Canada has expired the warning for the area posted this morning. However a chance of snowsqualls are now in the forecast. More on that as it develops.


Freezing rain warning in effect for:

Agawa – Lake Superior Park
Sault Ste. Marie – St. Joseph Island
Searchmont – Montreal River Harbour – Batchawana Bay
A period of freezing , possibly very heavy, expected today.

Freezing rain is occuring near Lake Superior and moving eastward into Northeastern Ontario. The freezing rain will affect Sudbury and North Bay during the morning and early afternoon hours. 5 to 10 millimetres of ice accretion is possible during this event.

The precipitation may begin as snow or ice pellets for many areas before changing to freezing rain. The event will end with temperatures rising and changing to rain or wet snow.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break. Utility outages may occur.
