UPDATE: OPP report that both Highway 17 east and north have now re-opened. However, additional snow squall activity is forecast and motorists should be aware that the closure of the highway could re-occur.

Highway 17 between Wawa and Batchawana has been closed due to dangerous driving conditions report the OPP. Highway 17 east between Blind River and Spanish has also been closed due to white out conditions. However that section of the highway was re-opened around 8:45am
Severe snow squalls are currently hitting the Lake Superior shoreline with 12cm plus an hour.
Strong winds are causing zero visibility . Snow Squalls are expected to last most of the day.
Last night people were pulling onto the shoulder and stopping the road conditions were so bad. Drive safely everyone.
