Male Charged with Flight from Police


On the 15th of December 2016 officers with the Criminal Investigation Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 32 year old Ryan Elliot of no fixed address for a variety of offences relating to incidents on November 12, 2016.

On November 12th 2016, the accused was arrested by police for breaching his release conditions and was held in custody. While he was in custody, officers continued their investigation into a stolen vehicle, police pursuit and arson that occurred on November 12th, 2016.

It is alleged that on the 12th of November 2016 the accused was driving a stolen vehicle on Queen Street when officers initiated a traffic stop. The accused did not stop for the officers and a pursuit began. The pursuit was terminated by police officers in order to ensure the safety of the public and the accused fled the area.

Soon after, officers responded to a call on Dundas Street where the stolen vehicle was found totally engulfed in flames. The accused was located on that date and was arrested for breaching the conditions of his house arrest relating to a previous incident. Mr. Elliot went bail court in relation to that charge on November 12th and was held in custody. Upon his arrest on November 12th the accused was found in possession of various tools that were valued at $1,655.00. Officers later determined that those tools had been stolen.

Detectives completed their investigation and arrested Mr. Elliot on December 15th, 2016 at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre. He has been charged with;

Three counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000.00
One count of possession of stolen property over $5,000.00,
One count of Flight from Police, and;
One count of Arson.
The accused is scheduled to appear in bail court on December 16th, 2016.
