They will both race on Sunday in relay races at the Algoma Rod and Gun Club to earn a spot to advice to the Regional Cadet Biathlon held in two weeks.
Cassandra is a member of the 2310 Army Cadets Corps finished first in the Junior Girls 4.5 Km Individual Race. Andre is a member of Royal Sovereign Sea Cadet Corps and finished first in the Youth Men 6 km Individual Race.
The Relay Races will start at 10:00 hrs on Sunday morning with the awarding of medals at 1:45 pm where the over 200 cadets from across Northern Ontario will learn who will represent Northern Ontario and the Provincial Competition in two weeks.
This Olympic-style competition is the Second of Four Stages and will consist of over 200 athletes cross-country skiing 1-2 km loops through the challenging terrain of Sault Ste Marie and shooting .22-calibre rifles at falling-plate targets in the range stadium. Sea, Army and Air Cadets are representing communities of the Eastern parts of Northern Ontario. These cadets will travel from locations, East as far as Renfrew and as far North as Kapuskasing with points in between to compete in this competition. The top cadet teams and individuals of this event will compete again in Sault Ste Marie on February 11 and 12th in the Regional Competition which will be for top awards in the Province of Ontario. The Fourth and Final Stage will be the National Cadet Biathlon held in Val Cartier, Quebec March 02-06 th, 2017 and will feature the top cadets in Canada.
