On the 18th of January 2017 officers with the Patrol Services Division and Emergency Services Unit of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 24 year old Todd Deschambeault of Red Deer Alberta as the result of an investigation into a stolen vehicle.
Shortly after 3:00 p.m. an officer in the area of John Street near Wellington Street West spotted a Chevrolet Cruz parked with light damage to the front end. Once the driver observed the officer, he began to drive away in deliberate fashion to avoid the police. The officer was able to stop the vehicle and after a short conversation the driver sped away.
Soon after, it was found that the vehicle was stolen from Red Deer Alberta. Officers continued to look for the accused and at 7:00 p.m. officers with the Emergency Services Unit located the stolen vehicle in the parking lot of a motel on Great Northern Road. The accused was located at that address and was subsequently arrested.
Mr. Deschambeault has been charged with one count of possession of stolen property over $5,000, one count of flight from police and three counts of breach of recognizance. He will appear in bail court today.
