UPDATE: Murder Charge – One person dead in west end incident

5 PM – Members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are still at the scene of a suspicious death at 112 Wellington Street West. Officers responded to a call for service just after 6:00 a.m. this morning. Shortly after they arrived a male victim was found deceased.

As a result of the investigation to this point, a 24 year old male from Sault Ste. Marie was taken into custody and has been charged with one count of First Degree Murder. He will appear in bail court on Monday morning.

Officers with the Criminal Investigations Division are continuing their investigation into this matter and the 100 block of Wellington Street West will remain closed to traffic while the investigation continues.

Further information will be released when it becomes available.

One person is dead following an incident early this morning on Wellington Street West.

Police are on scene at a home on Wellington Street West and the investigation is expected to last most of the day.  No other information is currently available.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are currently on the scene of a suspicious death at 112 Wellington Street West. Just after 6:00 a.m. on Saturday January 14th, officers with the Patrol Services Division responded to a call regarding a possible deceased male.

Shortly after officers arrived, it was determined that the victim was deceased. At this time one male is in custody, however no formal charges have been laid. Officers with the Criminal Investigations Division are continuing the investigation and further information will be released when it becomes available.

  1. Honestly, you shouldnt take the photos down. This is right in our hometown. Yea i get it someones kid is in that bag. But its called reality. Its not like this person is opening the bag to take a picture of the deceased. These pictures help create an awareness and a sense of reality about this whole ordeal. We cant “hide” and “shelter” the minds of others anymore. If you do, we create oblivious minds that know nothing of how a real world is

  2. Take them down so all these young teens can act like these things never happen . then next thing u know its ur kid on the news . awarness is key

  3. This is true life and reality what happens in the real world sad but true . I will try want to see my family member like this either but it’s the real world but true . It is a wake up call

    • She’s not hiding her head in the sand, it is disrespectful to take and share these photos. It is not ignorant to publish a tragedy without photographs, one can still understand the horrors of this world with only words.

    This is someone’s family member….what a horrible last memory to give them 🙁
