INTERNATIONALLY

World Religion Day is an interfaith observance initiated in 1950 by the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’is of the United States, celebrated worldwide on the third Sunday in January each year.

Though initiated in the United States, World Religion Day has come to be celebrated internationally.

Its purpose is to promote the idea that the spiritual principles underlying the world’s religions are harmonious, and to suggest that religions can play a role in unifying humanity.

IN SAULT STE. MARIE.

Twenty-six years ago, Roya Mogharrabi and the local Bahái community began organizing World Religion Day Services in Sault Ste. Marie.

Last year they invited people of other faiths and cultures to join them in planning for the services.  The “Volunteer Interfaith Committee of Sault Ste. Marie” was born.

The Committee believes: When representatives of different religions and cultures meet for fellowship and an exchange of ideas, these people grow in respect for each other and are strengthened in their efforts to encourage this respect in the local community and the world at large.

This planning committee includes people representing numerous religions and cultures. We invite others who are interested to join the committee.’
