The 18th Annual Shadows of the Mind film festival is set to run from February 27 – March 5, 2017 in Sault Ste. Marie.
This year’s lineup includes 5 Oscar Nominated films, 3 movies filmed in the Sault, and the return of our popular ‘Reel Northern Flicks: Short Films.’
Emmy nominated Bill Paxton appears in the film Mean Dreams that was filmed locally. Other locally shot films Lost & Found and Heroes of a Different Kind – Rise of the Dark Panther will be screened.
Lion, Life Animated, Manchester by the Sea, A Man Called Ove and 20th Century Women are all nominated for Oscar awards this year.
Shadows is proud to have award-winning Director Todd Wider as a guest to present his film, ‘God Knows Where I Am.’ This beautifully crafted and poignant documentary questions our societal norms for dealing with the mentally ill and homeless.

I’m thankful to see that Manchester By The Sea is included. I’ve been eager to see it since the first preview I came across online. It’s a shame how many good movies the Soo misses out on since Galaxy lost the additional screens. That, or their stay is too brief while others stick around for weeks on end.
