The Government of Canada is investing $22,374 to support enhancements at the Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club. The funding will support the installation of LED lighting to improve trail safety and accessibility, as well as the implementation of an outdoor PA system.
Terry Sheehan, Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor, today announced this Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program investment. These enhancements will allow skiers the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and ski into the late afternoons and evenings during the shorter winter days.
“These investments will provide family and friends the opportunity to spend quality time together, whether it’s at the Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club or the Kiwanis Community Theatre Centre. As Family Day will soon be upon us, I encourage all area residents to spend time with each other, and take part in all of the experiences that our region has to offer!” said

“On behalf of the Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club, the Kinsmen Club of Sault Ste. Marie and the Sault Ste. Marie Region Conservation Authority, I would like to thank the Government of Canada for investing in upgrading the lighting of our cross country ski trails at Hiawatha Highlands. This will improve accessibility and safety for cross country skiers and will promote outdoor winter physical activity in our city for years to come.”
