Male Arrested for Theft and Robbery

On March 22nd, 2017 officers with the Patrol Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 23 year old Sydney Benwell of Anderson Road in relation to 3 thefts.

It is alleged that on October 16th, 2016 the accused entered a store on Second Line West. The accused selected $116.00 worth of merchandise and left the store without paying. The accused attended the same store on October 17th and this time selected $58.00 worth of merchandise and left the store without paying.

Further, on March 10th, 2017 the accused attended the same store and selected $177.00 worth of merchandise. As the accused was leaving the store he was confronted by a staff member. The accused indicated that he had a knife and told the staff member not to come near him. No weapon was shown and the accused left with the merchandise.

On March 22nd, the accused was arrested by police and charged with 2 counts of theft under $5000.00 and one count of robbery. He will appear in court on May 1st, 2017.
