Two solid wins on Friday at the OFSAA Curling Championships in North Bay have advanced the St. Mary’s Boys curling team to the semi-finals.
The team, consisting of Skip Nick Lemieux, Vice Jake Reid, Second Andrew Berg, and Lead Taylor Longo defeated Central Huron Secondary School in a game that was conceded in six ends with a final score of 6-1. As was the key to their day two wins, St. Mary’s controlled the game with steals in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth ends. They finished pool play with a 4-1 record and an overall play-off seeding of second place.
In the quarter-final play-off game, St. Mary’s faced the team from Widdifield. The game was tight in the early ends and was tied 3-3 after five. St. Mary’s blew things open with a huge three point end in the sixth and a steal in the seventh. They ran Widdifield out of rocks in the eighth for a final score of 7-3.
Next action for the team from St. Mary’s will be Saturday morning when they will play Almonte in the semi-finals.
