YACOBACK, John Jacob “Jay”


Passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 19, 2017, at the Sault Area Hospital following complications from surgery at the age of 92.

Jay was the loving husband of his late wife Ruth Yacoback (Hess), brother of the late Jack Manley Yacoback and the late Patricia Robinson (Lloyd). He leaves behind his son Rod Yacoback (Elisabeth), his three grandchildren, Brent Yacoback (Carole Ann), Sherry Bessette and Erin Gillespie (Ian), his three great grandchildren, Liam, Johnny, and Jake, as well as his niece Ella Turner (Eric).

As a lifelong resident of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Jay had a distinguished career as a platoon chief with the City of Sault Ste. Marie Fire Department. He was extremely proud of his career and often spoke of his respect for the men and women who dedicate their lives to the firefighting profession.

Jay was also a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in the Second World War. Jay will be remembered as an avid golfer, and for his love of rock music and bird watching.

In respecting Jay’s wishes, there will be a private burial and no funeral service.
