Horrendous Accident – Driver taken to hospital

An really horrible accident that left wreckage all around the intersection and yard  at the home located at St. Georges Ave. E & North Street (s) left residents and citizens in the area quite shaken. At approximately 1:38 pm, the intersection at North St. and St. Georges Ave. E. was the scene of a motor vehicle accident that involved a solitary driver – who was successfully extricated from the truck – and taken away by Sault Ste. Marie EMS paramedics at approx. 2:10 pm. En route to Sault Area Hospital.

Sault Ste. Marie’s Professional Firefighters, EMS and Police were all called to the scene. The PUC was called in as well.

Details of the accident are currently under investigation. Superior Media can report that the elderly gentleman who was extricated from the white truck was alert when he left the scene.

The truck appears to have struck the house at 347 North St. before landing on the red truck.

The owner of the home, spoke with Superior Media and shared that the young family that rents the house were home at the time of the accident. They were all on the main floor when it happened and are very shaken up. The truck appears to have hit the top south-west portion of the house. The back and side yards are strewn with debris and what were three vehicles

There was no one in the red truck at the time of collision. The jeep has sustained heavy damage.

Sault Ste. Marie Firefighters Platoon Chief  Richard Pihlaja told Saultonline that only one individual was involved in the collision.

UPDATE at 3:08 pm

Officers with the Traffic Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are currently conducting an investigation into a motor vehicle collision on St. Georges Avenue near North Street.

A single motor vehicle collided with 2 parked vehicles and the side of a residence in that area.  At this time one person has been transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

As a result of this investigation the intersection of St. Georges Avenue and North Street will be closed while officers conduct the investigation.  Motorists are asked to use alternate routes when driving to their destinations and anyone who may have witnesses the collision is asked to contact the Traffic Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

The multi-vehicle accident resulted in injuries and heavy damage to three vehicles and a structure.

  2. On idiot driver hits three parked vehicles and causes all this carnage?
    Lock him up and throw away the key!
