Mechanical failure may have caused big crash


Officers with the Traffic Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are continuing their investigation into a motor vehicle collision that occurrence in the afternoon of April 19th, 2017 at the intersection of St. Georges Avenue and North Street.

A white Ford truck driven by an 82 year old male was travelling Westbound down St. Georges Avenue. Preliminary investigation reveals that this vehicle may have suffered a mechanical failure that caused it to have an inability to stop at the intersection.

This vehicle struck multiple unoccupied parked vehicles and a residence at that intersection before coming to a stop. The driver of the motor vehicle had to be extricated from the vehicle and was transported from the scene with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers are continuing this investigation and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.
