Mental Health Week and Children’s Mental Health Week is coming soon!

Algoma Family Services (AFS) and Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Sault Ste. Marie are proud to support this year’s annual MHW from May 1st to May 7th, 2017.

MHW creates awareness within the community regarding children’s and adult’s mental health.

We would like to inspire hope, wellness, and improve access to our many services. There is an overwhelming need to create awareness and to stop the stigma surrounding mental health.

Some staggering statistics are: 1 in 5 Canadians experiences mental health challenges; currently Canada does not meet the increasing demand for proper mental health care; 2 out of 3 employees will not tell their supervisor about their mental health illnesses; and Canada’s youth suicide rate is the third highest in the industrialized world.

This week includes several events to raise awareness and support children, youth and adults in our community. Some will raise funds towards children mental health programs at AFS and also CMHA programs and services.
We invite you to light it up green for MHW and CMHW, please visit for more information. Green is the official colour of mental health.
