The Kumon Method empowers children to become self-learners. Each time a student
tackles and overcomes a new challenge, their confidence grows, and they realize they
are achieving more than they thought they could.
On Saturday, May 6th 2017 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., the new owner and operator,
Shelly Skinner-Noel, welcomes the community of Sault Ste. Marie to join her in
celebrating the grand re-opening of Kumon at 140 Northern Ave.
Children are invited to attend with their parents to learn more about the program and
enjoy in free face painting and Henna tattoos. New parents who attend will have the
opportunity to receive free registration for his or her child into the Kumon program. In
order to qualify, attendees must receive a signed business card from Shelly and phone to
book an assessment during the week of May 8th to the 12th.
Shelly had the privilege of witnessing how effective the Kumon program can be as her
own son was a former student. “When my son was in grade one, I moved him from a
French immersion school to an English speaking school. I found that he fell behind in his
reading. I sought out Kumon for help and was surprised to see a significant change in his
grades within six short months!”
As an educator for more than twenty years and having experienced the positive benefits
of the program first-hand, Shelly jumped at the chance to purchase the franchise when
she found out it was for sale.
Previously the program was located in the John Rhodes building. The new location, at
140 Northern Ave, offers clients enrolled in the program significant benefits as it is
centrally located, resides in a building of it’s own, and allows for students to receive
more individualized attention if required.
The academic program is unlike any other as students’ progress at their own pace
through individualized worksheet lessons. Students are required to complete daily
assignments each weekday that take up to thirty minutes of time.
The commitment requires students to attend a thirty-minute session on Tuesday and
Thursday of each week. Students are then required to complete worksheets at home
during a designated “Kumon” time. The worksheets provide step-by-step instruction as
well as examples to enable students to learn new concepts on their own.
To learn more about the program and how you can enroll your child, plan to attend
Kumon’s Grand Opening on May 6th. For more information, please visit Kumon Sault Ste.
Marie on Facebook.
Kumon puts students on the path to becoming the confident, independent, self-reliant
people all parents hope their children will be.
