Sault College Hosts National Canadian Film Day

Do you want to help make history by participating in the world’s largest film festival ever? Sault College is giving you the chance on Wednesday, April 19 as it hosts the National Canadian Film Day 150!

Presented by REEL CANADA, the National Canadian Film Day (NCFD) 150 is a massive one-day celebration of Canadian cinema in honour of Canada’s 150th anniversary. On April 19, 2017, great Canadian movies will be available on air, online and on foot at over 1,700 screenings in cinemas, libraries, public squares – anywhere you can show a film. With free events happening across every province and territory, many involving Canadian film talent, NCFD 150 — a Canada 150 Signature Project — promises to be the largest film festival in the world ever.

Sault College is excited and honoured to participate in and celebrate this film festival with a free screening of Mean Dreams beginning at 6 p.m. on April 19 in the Sault College Multi Media Centre (B1170). Following the screening at 8 p.m., attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a question and answer session with members from the Mean Dream’s production team, including Director, Nathan Morlando. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable insight into filmmaking and the film industry.

Mean Dreams is a 2016 Canadian coming-of-age thriller film directed by Nathan Morlando and written by Kevin Coughlin and Ryan Grassby. The film stars Sophie Nélisse, Josh Wiggins, and Bill Paxton. In December 2016, Mean Dreams was named to the Toronto International Film Festival’s annual Canada’s Top 10 list.

Sault College is particularly proud to screen this film as it was shot over four weeks in Echo Bay, Desbarats, Garden River and Sault Ste. Marie and features our gorgeous Northern Ontario landscape, as well as the hard work of many Sault College Digital Film Production students and local community talents!

The National Canadian Film Day 150 will be an amazing day showcasing the unique and outstanding talents of many!
