You’re Sure of a Big Surprise

If You Go Into The George Leach Centre – On Saturday – You’re Sure of a Big Surprise.

On Saturday, April 8th 2017, the George Leach Centre at Algoma University will be transformed into a place where teddy bears can, and will, come to play.

Through the generous support of Algoma University, the George Leach Centre has been made available for youngsters, teddy bears, caregivers and families to come together for a tremendous cause. The inaugural event, ‘Teddy Bear’s Picnic & Auction’ is collaboration between The Kiwanis Club of Lakeshore, The Aktion Club of Lakeshore and The Algoma Autism Foundation.

Businesses, organizations and individuals have already begun the fundraising effort by purchasing teddy bears, and building a creative narrative around the bear. Bears are embellished and styled by each organization, business and individual, thereby creating a special and unique teddy bear auction item.

“Businesses, organizations and individuals have been extremely generous and are working hard to create terrific teddy bear auction items.” said Melissa Cunning, Kiwanis Aktion Club of Lakeshore.

The teddy bears will become part of auction categories; Mega-Bear, and Premium Bears, which will be auctioned live  – Standard Bears support the silent auction line-up.

Beginning at 12:00 pm, and running all afternoon, the event is 100% free to attend. The Live auction will begin at 3:00 pm. Silent Auction will continue until completion of the Live auction.

“All children will receive snacks and refreshments and can participate in various activities such as trying out the Fishing Simulator, Easter Egg Hunt, Arts and Crafts, and Story-time courtesy of The Public Library.” said Cunning.

“There will be opportunities for the attendees to take a picture with Mascots at the ‘Selfie Station’, a Scavenger Hunt and more.”

“We hope lots of families and kids will come out to support the event and take part in our first ever, Teddy Bear Picnic.” she said.

Cunning told Superior Media that anyone who wants to learn more about Saturday, April 8th’s Teddy Bear Picnic and Auction is welcome to contact her at 705-206-5211 (Cell) or email her: [email protected]

All proceeds from The Teddy Bear Picnic & Auction will be shared amongst the three partnered charity organizations to directly benefit the children of our community.

Excerpt from lyrics – ‘Teddy Bear’s Picnic’ by Anne Murray.

If you go down in the woods today
You’re sure of a big surprise.
If you go down in the woods today
You’d better go in disguise!

For every bear that ever there was
Will gather there for certain
Because today’s the day the
Teddy Bears have their picnic.

Beneath the trees, where nobody sees

They’ll hide and seek as long as they please

‘Cause that’s the way the

Teddy Bears have their picnic.
