150 paddlers needed!


Celebrate Canada’s 150th at the Parade of Paddles on July 1st. The Parade of Paddles welcomes experienced paddlers to join an historic Voyageur brigade. The canoe parade will lock through the Sault Ste. Marie Canal lock and parade down the historic St. Marys Heritage River to kick off Canada Day celebrations in Sault Ste. Marie. Locking begins at 10:00 am. Pre-registration is required. www.ssmrca.ca

Let’s break a Sault Canal record and get 150 paddlers to go through the lock together!

The Parade of Paddles will paddle to the Bushplane Heritage Centre and portage across Bay Street to History Fest at the Ermatinger•Clergue National Historic Site.

While at the Lock, spectators can enjoy entertainment by the Healing Lodge Signers, Ribbon Dancing by the Metis Association, Airbrush tattoos by Parks Canada. Learn about the History of Trapping and Furs, Invasive Species and the St. Marys River. Enjoy all these activities from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm.

The celebration continues with History Fest at the Ermatinger Clergue National Historic Site. Join us for Lunch on the Lawn, tour the site with historic interpreters. Enjoy period performers, heritage crafts, pioneer games and entertainment from 10:00 am
