An initiative to assist local cancer patients experiencing hair loss due to cancer treatment
For many years, Sault College’s Hairstyling Program has been committed to helping those affected by hair loss as a result of cancer treatment. Through the Hair’s To You program, Sault College’s Hairstyling Program provides personalized consultations and fittings of wigs for cancer patients to borrow/take home as well as ongoing maintenance inclusive of wig cleaning, sanitization and personalized styling to help patients gain confidence and strength throughout their journey.
Students and faculty are dedicated to raising awareness and much needed funds in support of this amazing service. The Hair’s To You fundraising campaign will kick off with a Dinner and Wig Fashion Show at Grand Gardens North on Tuesday, June 13, beginning with cocktails at 5:30 p.m. (cash bar) followed by dinner at 6:15 p.m. Tickets are $35 per person and can be purchased from staff and students of the Hairstyling Program at the College hairstyling salon or by calling 705.759.2554 extension 2741.
Sault College’s Hairstyling Program is committed to providing a caring, supportive and respectful environment and service to men, women and children in our community who are living with cancer and experiencing hair loss.
“The College and the Hairstyling program’s students and staff are honoured to support our community by offering the Hair’s To You program to local cancer patients,” says Debbie Dunseath, Coordinator and Professor in the Hairstyling Program. “This program is one way we can use our talents to help our community and help those who are going through such a difficult time. If we can help these individuals in one small way and make a difference in their lives, then we have succeeded. We are truly grateful to be able to empower these individuals and help them through their journey,” she adds.
Wigs can cost anywhere between $250 for synthetic to $1,200 for human hair. The collective goal of the Hair’s To You Dinner and Wig Fashion Show is to raise funds to purchase new wigs and other types of headwear for men, women and children living with cancer. Many of the patients utilizing the Hair’s To You program are referred by the cancer clinic.
Sault College’s wig supply is always in need of new or used wigs for distribution to those undergoing cancer treatment and experiencing hair loss. Donations – both monetary and wigs – are graciously accepted. If you are able to donate, please call 705.759.2554 extension 2741. As a certified non-profit organization operating at Sault College, tax-deductible receipts can be issued for any donation over twenty dollars.
We invite and encourage the community to join us for the Hair’s To You Dinner and Wig Fashion Show on June 13 and support this wonderful initiative and help to make a difference in the lives of so many in our community.
