    Soo Thunderbirds

The Soo Thunderbirds Hockey Club is making some major changes for the 2017-2018 season. Under new ownership and a renewed commitment to the community, the Soo Thunderbirds team is excited for what the future has in store for the fans and for the City of Sault Ste. Marie.

The storied history and success of the Soo Thunderbirds dates back to the mid 1970’s and more recently to league and playoff championships, provincial championships, and National Championship appearances. Anchored by players, including standouts Colin Miller, Owen Headrick, and Boris Katchouk as well as a staff who believed in what the Soo Thunderbirds Hockey Club epitomized. All Thunderbirds who have played before and made strides as players and young men have worked on and off the ice. That’s what the 2017-2018 team will represent. Our new logo with a mix of tradition and a new look representing the “Mythical Bird who will bring Thunder” will symbolize what the Soo Thunderbirds Hockey Club will bring to the rink every night.

As advertised through Social Media, the club will be wearing primarily Blue, with Orange, and White trim at home, while on the road, the club will wear primarily White, with Blue and Orange trim. The team will also unveil a third Orange jersey with Blue and White trim with another logo, used primarily for promotional opportunities and merchandise sales. Watch for our Logo Launch Event!

The Club is also very pleased to announce that Jordan Smith will be back for his 5th season as Head Coach. Smith, who will be working with a mix of young local players, and veteran talent from Sault Ste. Marie and elsewhere, is already looking forward to next season. Jordan brings passion, leadership, knowledge and a successful resume, which includes 3 NOJHL Regular Season Championships, 2 NOJHL Playoff Championships, 1 Dudley Hewitt Cup Championship, 2 Dudley Hewitt Cup appearances, and 1 RBC National Championship appearance.

Season passes will be available in June as well Merchandise for sale at local outlets. Sponsorship opportunities will be available, including Namimg Rights, Rink Boards, Ice Logos, Rink Banners, Glass Jersey Logos, Socks, Programs and Lobby Sponsorship – All at the John Rhodes Community Centre.
