Sault Youth Round Out Roster for Fringe North Fun and Fundraiser with The Comedics!

There is still time to get your tickets for ‘The Comedics and Friends for Fringe’ fundraising event in the Delta Hotel’s Algoma Ballroom, this Friday June 2. Proceeds will go to support the brand-new Fringe North International Theatre Festival, coming to Sault Ste. Marie this August 2017.

Proving time and again that laughter is the best medicine, this group of doctors and associates are sure to keep you in stitches. Featuring the hilarious talents of Gene Turgeon, Bob Maloney, John Pearson, Rob Askin, Denise Lacroix, Colette Chiarello, Fred Pelletier, Frank Greco, Dave Simard, Rob Rock and Mike Lacroix, the Comedics have helped raise over $2 million for local charitable groups in the past 20 years.

The June 2 show will also feature two very special guests, Northern Arts Academy students Brittany Noonan and Ryan Mauro (accompanied by Paul Dingle).

“It is really great to be able to showcase such a wide variety of local talent” said Fringe North artistic director Tova Arbus. “Fringe content is not censored, which means shows are often unexpected, raw and exciting. The Comedics brand of humour fits the Fringe mold to a T. And having young artists share the stage meets the goals Fringe North has of creating youth artist opportunities.”

Fringe festivals share a set of common guidelines providing an “easily accessible opportunity” for audiences and artists to participate. Anyone can submit a show and festivals place no limits on content. With 100% of box office proceeds going to the artists, Fringes rely on sponsorships and donations to survive. “A fundraiser like this makes a world of difference” said general manager Peter Rowe. “We are extremely grateful to The Comedics and their special friends for offering us their time and talents.”

So plan to spend Friday night with Fringe North and the Comedics. “Nothing says Fringe like political satire, parodies, and musical humour” Arbus commented. “With the promise of new creations as well as old favorites, this is sure to be a night you won’t want to miss.”
