Crime Stoppers asks supporters to give up an everyday luxury for one week and donate the money they would normally spend on it to their campaign and to challenge a friend to do the same! This can mean different things for different people; popular options include coffee, pop, take-out, the cost of gas to get to work (if it’s possible to walk or take public transportation instead), etc… If 1,000 people gave up their morning coffee for 1 week, they could help Crime Stoppers reach their goal of $10,000. A $10 donation can make a BIG difference!
Established in 1985, Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District Crime Stoppers is a non-profit charitable community service program that relies heavily on community support and donations in order to provide the community with a proactive program that allows individuals to anonymously assist in solving crime and contributing to an improved quality of life in our district. Crime Stoppers fundamentally believes in the importance of building bridges within our communities and working together in making our streets safer.
This month Crime Stoppers is celebrating 32 years in Sault Ste. Marie! Over the last 32 years their program has grown and the public has assisted them in making 4,172 arrests and recovering a total of $10,517,202 in property & drugs. Their 2015-2016 stats speak for themselves. Crime Stoppers has seen a huge increase in tips in the last few years, which have led to an increase in Rewards being paid out! In 2015 they paid out $12,100 in Rewards that almost doubled in 2016 when they paid out $24,050.
The funds raised from this campaign will go toward paying rewards, upgrading their Community Patrol Group by providing them with new uniforms and upgraded equipment and will also help Crime Stoppers launch a new community awareness campaign by covering the costs of putting up a billboard and Crime Stoppers street signs.
