Brad Jacobs put down his curling broom and rock last week to show off his fishing and golfing skills for the television series Fins & Skins Classic Adventures.
Set to air in the fall, the episode pits the local curling skip against show host and former CFL all‐star Henry Waszczuk. The pair went steelhead fishing on the St. Mary’s River, then battled it out during a round at the Sault Golf Club.
“It was a great day, especially the fishing,” said Jacobs, whose curling team took home gold at the 2014 Winter Olympics. “I haven’t been fishing in years, but it brought back some great memories of fishing with my dad when I was a kid. It was my first time fly fishing, and it was an awesome experience. Thanks to Henry Waszczuk and the Fins & Skins crew and Brad Hodkinson from Soo North Fly Shop for the opportunity.”
Fins & Skins airs on TSN and Global TV in Canada, along with the World Fishing Network and Fox Sports in the United States. Taking place in communities across North America, the series host competes against a local celebrity for a friendly day of fishing and golfing. To learn more, visit www.finsmediagroup.com.
Since 2003, three episodes of Fins & Skins have been shot in the Sault. These promotional opportunities were created by Tourism Sault Ste. Marie. As one of its primary activities, the organization markets the community by generating and hosting familiarization tours with visiting television shows, travel writers and other media personnel.
“Hosting a show like Fins & Skins provides a great opportunity to showcase the world‐class fishing in the St. Mary’s rapids while also featuring one of our premier golf courses,” said Ian McMillan, Executive Director of Tourism Sault Ste. Marie. “This TV show is widely viewed in Canada and the U.S., which gives us an opportunity to promote the golf and fishing packages that we offer through our online reservation system.”
