More than 3,000 delegates are set to gather in Sault Ste. Marie this week for a major conference. From Friday, July 21 to Sunday July 23, the Essar Centre is hosting the 2017 Christian Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses Convention. The event is expected to generate more than 4,000 visitor days and inject over $600,000 of direct visitor spending into the local economy.
Tourism Sault Ste. Marie has been working with the Christian Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, local Jehovah’s Witnesses members and its industry partners on securing and coordinating the conference. This same group joined forced last year to secure and host the 2016 Christian Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses Convention. The event draws delegates from across Northern Ontario and Michigan.
“Working with partners to attract major events is one of our primary activities,” said Ian McMillan, Executive Director of Tourism Sault Ste. Marie, a division of the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation. “For this year’s Christian Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses Convention, I thank our accommodation partners and event organizers for their support, and I look forward to welcoming the visiting delegates later this week.”
Along with securing major conferences and sports tournaments, Tourism Sault Ste. Marie also works to draw visitors to the community by selling vacation packages, marketing area attractions and festivals, developing tourism products and infrastructure, and attracting cruise ships, motor coach tours and other group excursions.
