Drivers Urgently Needed

1

The Canadian Cancer Society’s Wheels Of Hope program is in desperate need of volunteer drivers to support clients in the Sault Ste. Marie area who are undergoing cancer treatment. Our most urgent need is for volunteer drivers to facilitate local drives (to a client’s local health care provider or cancer related treatment appointment.)

Wheels of Hope is a transportation service for people who have no other way of getting to life-saving treatment. In Ontario, 1 in 5 cancer patients cannot get to their cancer-related appointments. Last year, alone, volunteer drivers helped 13, 800 patients in Ontario and drove almost 12 million kilometres; a distance that is equivalent to driving the world almost 300 times. You can learn more about the program here and I have included one of our promotional post cards for your review.

We would sincerely appreciate any support or coverage you may be willing to provide for this urgent need to assist us in our volunteer recruitment efforts.

I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this further with you and look forward to hearing from you.

  1. I would drive if there was something to drive, doesn’t the Elks have a van used for this, specifically?
