A campaign to raise money for the Royal Canadian Legion Vets with a cheque presentation by Metro staff Thursday.

“We decided to because it’s Canada’s 150th birthday it would be nice to raise money for local veterans for everything they have done” said Metro Churchill Plaza Store Manager, Peter Disisto.

The campaign comprised of a series of fund raising activities by Metro staff such as bakes sales and porketta parties as well as selling signs that were displayed on the Metro front window to other area businesses.

Metro presented a cheque worth $9,260 to Legion Members following the conclusion of the fundraising campaign that ran from March to July this year.

“I think it’s fabulous that Metro has taken this one, it’s the first time we’ve had a major corporate sponsor do this” explained, Royal Canadian Legion 1st. Vice President Br. 25 Ernie Bremner. “The money goes to the legion branch that distributes the money, when need to veteran members”

“Metro is commendable for this initiative to raise funds for veterans” commented,  President Branch 25 Wilma Oliver,”
