Week long races start Monday!

The 2017 North Channel Race Week is set to start this coming Monday, July 17th, 2017 at 10:00 am from Hilton Beach. This is a five day, five stage race which winds through the beautiful North Channel of Lake Huron with stops in Thessalon, Blind River, Spragge, Gore Bay and Little Current. A variety of different yachts partake in the regatta from 27 feet to the 40 feet with the race utilizing the Lake Huron Performance Handicap Racing Fleet ratings (Performance Handicap Racing Fleet (PHRF) is a handicapping system used for yacht racing in North America. It allows dissimilar classes of sailboats to be raced against each other).

The fleet is made up of entries from all over Lake Huron including several from the Algoma Sailing Club in Sault Ste. Marie, Hilton Beach, the North Channel Yacht Club in Spragge, Gore Bay, several from the Little Current Yacht Club, Toronto, and Lions Head. In particular returning this year to protect their titles are the entries Harmony II from Lions Head, and Echo from the Algoma Sailing Club who were winners in their respective divisions in 2016.

2017 has seen some favourable winds this year around the club racing circuits. This year’s NCRW is hoping Mother Nature continues into next week and give all the participants some exciting challenges.
