Calling all Sault & District residents. Head over to STAPLES today, Thursday August 24th  between 11 – 4 pm and support The Kiwanis Club of Lakeshore’s BBQ, in partnership with STAPLES Canada’s ‘Back to School Supply Campaign’.

The Kiwanis Club of Lakeshore ‘Back to School Supplies Drive’, in partnership with STAPLES, is an annual event that works to support local students struggling to fill their back-packs with the school supplies required by schools.

“Over and above the BBQ, Club volunteers are also inside the store, working with cashiers, helping to move people through the lines, and gather donated school supplies.” shared Bonnie Marcil, Kiwanis Club of Lakeshore member and volunteer extraordinaire.

‘To help students in need get back-to-school with the essential supplies, Staples Canada has begun its annual School Supply Drive. Now in its 12th year, the back-to school program has raised more than $12 million for children in need, thanks to the generosity of Staples customers.

This year, Staples has partnered with pop superstar Lady Gaga to support this initiative. “The School Supply Drive is near and dear to our hearts,” said Mary Sagat, President of Staples Canada. “There is nothing more important than having the right tools, and we are proud to help millions of young people start their school year on the right track with the supplies they need to be successful.”

Until September 12, customers can participate in the School Supply Drive by adding a donation to their purchases made in store and online at Staples.ca. The campaign is managed by local Staples stores, with funds raised supporting a local community organization, such as Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada, United Way, Salvation Army and Breakfast Club of Canada. Annually, Staples customers donate more that $1.5 million to local non-profits through the Staples School Supply Drive. “Our team members care deeply about this program,” added Sagat. “They take pride in the fact that they are reaching out to their peers and asking them to support a program that gives something directly back to their community.”

“Once STAPLES has gathered all the donations collected from within the store through customer donations, STAPES in turn, will purchase school supplies to match the donations collected through their customers.” said Bonnie Marcil.

“The local School Boards determine where the supplies go, ultimately based on students they have identified as being in need of support.”

“STAPLES let’s us know when everything is ready to go. They (Staples) package everything up, and load it onto a truck. Kiwanis Club of Lakeshore then contacts the Algoma District School Board, and Huron Superior Catholic District School Board to make arrangements for distribution.”

The BBQ dates, hosted by Kiwanis Club of Lakeshore are: August 24 – August 31st and September 7th. A menu of delicious and affordable BBQ items is offered, as well as home baking.

Donations of school supplies as well as monetary donations are gratefully accepted until Sept. 12th  at STAPLES. A Collection Box for school supplies is located inside the STAPLES store.
