The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Sault Ste. Marie area resident following an investigation relating to allegations of criminal wrongdoing.

In December 2016, the Commissioner of the OPP received a request from the Chief of Sault Ste. Marie Police Service to conduct an external, independent and thorough investigation. The investigation was completed by the OPP East Algoma Crime Unit under the direction of Major Case Manager, Detective Inspector Rob Matthews with the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).

As a result, the OPP have charged Michael FIGLIOLA, 58 years old, of Huron Shores, Ontario with:

  • Fraud, Section 380(1)(b), contrary to the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Uttering a forged document, Section 368(1)(a), contrary to the CC; and
  • Breach of trust by public official, Section 122, contrary to the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear on Monday, August 28, 2017 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

The OPP will not comment further in order to protect the integrity of the investigation and the ongoing court processes.

  1. I wonder if this is in regard to the misuse of the company vehicle that he drives 200 km to work every day. Keeping city property for personal use (fraud), uttering forged documents (log books for said vehicle) betraying public trust… well we can figure that one out.

    • He billed the city for travel expenses for a convention of the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs that he did not attend.
      Somewhere around $1100.00
      There is your fraud, breach of trust, uttering a false document.

  2. Ok. The population is decreasing, the # of counclllors is being reduced, money wasted on economic development is being reduced by the hundreds of thousands of dollars, the City can’t afford anything, especially hiring more firefighters…this new fire chief is going to be hilarious when he tries to spout out the union boring rhetoric

    • As usual, Burn-E, you make comments that don’t even match the story. No talk about reducing councillors, no talk about the EDC, no talk about hiring firefighters, no talk about the new Fire Chief. Everything is about the person you have been behind through this whole fiasco. Yes, everyone who reads this news feed knows where you stand. We have heard from you time and time again. Backing the former Chief. He is the one the story is about:
      Fraud, Section 380(1)(b), contrary to the Criminal Code (CC);
      Uttering a forged document, Section 368(1)(a), contrary to the CC; and
      Breach of trust by public official, Section 122, contrary to the CC.

      Who knows exactly what these charges mean but the OPP wouldn’t file charges on unsubstantial evidence.

      What the story doesn’t say is why the City of SSM didn’t launch this. Are the people running this corporation not paying attention?
      Election time cannot come soon enough. Over the past couple years our city has received nothing but bad publicity over bad decisions. Yes, election time can’t come soon enough.
      And Burn-E, thanks for showing up again. We haven’t heard from you since………oh ya, when the former Fire Chief…….hmmmm…..parted ways from the City on his own…..?

  3. This is the guy who presented City council with his re-alignment plan in October 2016 and when asked about liability he said ” I don’t look good in orange!” I wonder if things have changed.
    It’s time for our City council to speak, apologize, and get things back on the proper track with our Fire Services. They backed this guy vocally in the public and look where we are now.
