Some things are well worth the wait. Thirteen years after the band’s debut album, Odd Man Out is releasing its second full-length record, Over the Ocean. On Friday, August 4 at 9:30 p.m., a CD release party is taking place at the Pub at Algoma’s Water Tower Inn & Suites. Admission is free.
The title of the 11-track album speaks to the distance between band members. Though they all hail from Sault Ste. Marie, lead singer Nick Roy lives in South Korea. His vocals were recorded at Love X Studio in Seoul. The rest of the CD was recorded in the Sault at Warren Reville’s studio. It features Chris Myers, Steve Myers, Josh Norling and Clifford Alloy. Craig West, who mixed Over the Ocean, will be joining the band on stage as bass guitarist for the concert next month.
The album consists of songs written and performed live by Odd Man Out over the past decade. It also features four new tracks composed earlier this year during the production process. Besides music being recorded in both Canada and South Korea, it was mastered by Will Geraldo in Sao Paolo, Brazil. The making of the album was an international effort completed across the Pacific on three continents, hence the title, Over the Ocean.
“The distance between members made collaboration and recording more timely and unusual, but the chemistry we share allowed the process to flow as smoothly as ever,” said Roy. “We wanted to make this happen, and we’re very proud and excited to share our new album with friends, family and music lovers in our hometown.”
Odd Man Out formed in 2002. The group’s debut album, Lost In My Wondering, was released in 2004. With lead singer Nick Roy moving to South Korea in 2007, song production and live shows slowed but never halted. The recording of Over the Ocean marks their return to the studio work after a decade-long hiatus.
CDs will be on sale at the album release party for $10. For more information, visit the Facebook event page at www.facebook.com/events/135848717003849.
