The Algoma Thunderbirds soccer teams and cross-country running team will hit the road for the first time this season.
The soccer teams will be in Windsor, Ontario this weekend taking on the Windsor Lancers on Saturday and Sunday. The women’s Lancers are currently 1-0-3 while the men are 0-3-1. The women’s Tbirds are in pursuit of their first OUA win of the season after beinge dealt two losses in their home openers against the Waterloo Warriors. The men are hoping to continue the momentum that carried them to a 3-2 win, their first victory of the season.
“We are looking to build on last weekend’s win and carry that momentum into the games. We have worked on skills this week and are looking for some solid performances on the field,” said Head Coach Neil Ovey.
In other varsity action, the cross-country running team will be in Sudbury, Ontario competing in the Laurentian Open. Both the men’s and women’s runners will be competing in a five-kilometre race. This year’s squad consists of Marissa Ditoro (Omaha, NE), Stephen Kreyenbuhl (Chicago, IL), Lucas Luciani (Sault Ste. Marie, ON), Kelsey Ochman (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario), Aksel Pollari (Echo Bay, Ontario), and Tayln Tait (Sault Ste. Marie, ON).
