The Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services and Police Service responded to a call yesterday at approximately 4:40 p.m. regarding a collision involving a pickup truck and a SUV. A black Ford Escape entered the intersection travelling northbound at which time a red Dodge pickup truck travelling westbound collided with the SUV resulting in significant damage to both vehicles. The SUV came to rest on the front lawn of a corner residence.
The two occupants of the SUV, which included a 10 month old baby, were taken to hospital as a precautionary measure and both were released a short time later with no injuries. The male driver of the SUV told SaultOnline that he was extremely thankful for both the performance of the car seat as well as the safety features of SUV which included airbags as well as an automated call to 911 just after impact. “I immediately jumped out of the car to make sure my daughter wasn’t hurt and heard a voice asking if I needed assistance…”, stated the driver.
Emergency responders on scene stated that the driver of the pickup truck, although shaken, appeared to be uninjured as well. Both vehicles were travelling well within the speed limit.
