Driver lost control of vehicle

An 84 year old female lost control of her vehicle that resulted in the death of a 58 year old female on Saturday at the western section of the Station Mall Saturday morning Sault Ste. Marie Police Services report.

A 2005 Ford Focus wagon originally hit the northwest section of the Walmart Store before colliding with Marilyn Monroe, a pedestrian on the sidewalk.

Monroe worked at the Great Northern Road Walmart, the YMCA and Sault Transit, suffered substantial injuries and died later at Sault Area Hospital.

The driver, from Sault Ste. Marie was also with a passenger in the vehicle. Police say drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the accident. How the driver lost control is still under investigation. Police seized the vehicle and will check the vehicle for mechanical fitness.

  1. Umm we already do scrutinize anyone over 80 years old to make damn sure they should still be driving…Apparently she fell through the cracks.

  2. It’s way past time to scrutinize anyone over 80 yrs old to make damn sure they should still have a drivers license and are safe to get behind the wheel. This lady that never should have been driving is a prime example.
