Great Lakes Forestry Centre

In recognition of Canada 150 and National Forest Week, the Great Lakes Forestry Centre (GLFC) is hosting an Open House for local high school students and teachers on Friday, September 22nd, and a Public Open House on Saturday, September 23rd.

The Open House will highlight a variety of forest-related information booths from different GLFC divisions as well as outside stakeholders including Invasive Species Centre, Ontario Forest Research Institute, Parks Canada, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, BioForest, Sault College and Algoma University. In addition, the Open House will also include a tour of various laboratories and will focus on research conducted at GLFC.

The tours commemorate National Forest Week (NFW), which began in 1926 as Forest Fire Prevention Week and is observed annually during the last week of September. Renamed in 1967, this week of celebrations now highlights the many human and environmental aspects of Canada’s forest resources.
