Manufacturing Day in Algoma

Program Designed to Expand Knowledge of Manufacturing, Improve Public
Perception of Manufacturing Career Opportunities

Manufacturing Day (MFGDAY) is a North American wide celebration of modern manufacturing during which manufacturers provide access to their facilities in a collective effort to educate visitors about manufacturing career opportunities and improve public perceptions of manufacturing. The Algoma Workforce Investment Corporation (AWIC) is excited to be working with local manufacturers and schools around the region to host student and public tours of their facilities on Friday, October 6th, 2017.

As part of the Manufacturing Day Algoma activities, Sault College will be offering 2 public tours of its world class laboratory equipped with the latest robotics equipment installed in a simulated manufacturing environment. This will allow members of the public to see the cutting-edge technology of today’s manufacturing and how students are learning how to use it right here in Algoma. Space is limited for the tours and people are asked to register in advance at

In addition to the public tours, students from the Algoma District School Board and the Huron-Superior Catholic School Board will be touring local manufacturers such as Arauco, Pollard Banknote, Wesdome Mines (Wawa) and Prestige Glass (Elliot Lake).
By providing an opportunity to focus collective attention on manufacturing, MFGDAY Algoma aims to:
• Promote Local Manufacturers
• Change public perceptions of manufacturing
• Introduce students to manufacturing careers
• Draw attention to the roles manufacturers play in their communities
• Highlight the economic and social significance of manufacturing
