September is Now Officially Pride Month !

Officially in my books anyway. I chose this month and many of you will agree, that this month brings about the most pride in us as parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts etc. In case you still haven’t had your first cup of Joe and are still asking yourselves ,  “what does this have to do with being gay or homosexual ?”, well the answer is nothing because it doesn’t 😊. Pride month to me equates to Proud Month ; you see I have a 19 year old that is just entering college and I couldn’t be more proud of her. For the sake of anonymity and for the sake of her not kicking my a**, I won’t mention her name ; we shall just call her “Carlucci”. (she knows who she is .) Anyway my daughter has been determined in every aspect in life that she takes on, whether it was gymnastics, competitive figure skating , working full time, or getting her education in order to take on the next level of her life. She is a very determined young lady and one day I will be proud to introduce my daughter as a Nurse or whatever livelihood she chooses. . This year she is taking one year of Pre Health and if she likes it as much as she thinks she will, she will no doubt follow up with Nursing. Originally she wanted to take the Ultra Sound Technician course in either London or Sudbury, but she thought things through and has enroledl here at Sault College.  The course she is taking  basically boils down to an Intro to the Health Field. This way she can make an educated decision and decide what path she wants…This is why I am sooooo proud of her.  Smart girl !!!!…..She no doubt takes after her Father and Mother equally .

Moving on, as she is probably already pi**ed at me  😊 ; she’s not a huge fan of the spotlight, but what can I do ?  I am a very proud Father and I’ll stop raving about her when she actually threatens me LoL.

Aside from this being a special September personally, I have always liked this time of year, as it meant the punks and brats would be off the streets  earlier in the evening and throughout the day ; just kidding, they are just kids being kids and the more they are outside……….the better. Too many kids are allowed to coup themselves up in the house playing video games or whatever. When you see them outside……..even if they are being loud and obnoxious, keep in mind it’s a good thing, and that we were doing the same thing years ago. For me it was 15 years ago when I was a teenager………..Ba Ha Ha 😉

During this time of pride for our kids going on to the next level, and one more step to independence and freedom for them …..and us, it is a very bitter sweet moment. On one hand, you are happy for them and happy that you have helped mold them into succeeding as young people, but on the other hand you do realize that “my baby is getting bigger” and won’t need me as much anymore. This as we all no is not true standing on it’s own. Our kids will always need us and reach out to us, but they are able to fix more problems on their own than before ; but still the worry in our hearts is there.

Let’s talk happy talk ….per se…. I remember the first day I put my little girl on the school bus ; it was such a proud feeling for her Mother and I. I remember picking her up everyday or every other day depending on my schedule, and watching her glowing eyes and smile as she looked through the bus window to see if I was there . She was not only happy to see Dad , but excited to report back on what she learned that day.           Screw You Mas******D……….This is the real definition of PRICELESS !!

I was just talking to my school bus driver buddy Tym (OTTO)….and he is really looking forward to his first year driving for First Student. He mentioned that he has spoken with a few parents who have children that he will be providing transportation for. He said the glow in their eyes while talking about their little ones first year in school was just amazing.

So all in all kids and friends, we have a win win situation ; a bit more free time during the day, and a warm heart knowing our children are starting their road trip to success in the future.

Oops, gotta go ; the bell just rang and if I’m caught being on my cell,  it’s detention again for me 😞

Enjoy the ride for the next 10 months,

  1. another poignant story. I remember all too well those days when my kids went to school and me waiting anxiously for their return home.
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\we should also accept the fact that kids can be noisy and sometime mischievous and try to remember our own childhood when we were to obnoxious ones.
So yes. another well piece my friend.
