Squabble with girlfriend leads to numerous charges

On September 27th, 2017 officers with the Patrol Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 38 year old male as a result of a domestic violence incident.

It is alleged that on September 27th the accused engaged in a verbal argument with his girlfriend.  The argument escalated and the accused began to damage pieces property belonging to the victim.  The accused then set fire to various pieces of the victim’s property in a bathtub and broke the windshield of the victim’s vehicle before leaving the residence.

The accused was located by officers a short time later and taken into custody.  He has been charged with;

2 Counts of Mischief under $5,000,
One count of Arson – disregard for human life,
One count of possession of incendiary material,
One count of arson – damage to property, and;
One count of breach of probation

He will appear in bail court today.

  1. Considering the seriousness of the charges, I challenge Sault Online to refer to this as something other than a “Squabble”? A squabble is trivial. This obviously was not – it was Domestic Assault, which is a felony.
