This weekend will definitely go down as a record breaker. For the second day in a row Sault Ste. Marie broke a temperature record yesterday reaching 31.5c and another record will likely be broken today and Monday.
A heat wave is defined by three consecutive days of temperatures exceeding 30c, so yes, we’re in the middle of a heat wave and it’s only a week from October.
Temperatures are expected to fall to normal values by mid-week with a passage of a cold front.
A large and persistent area of high pressure over Southern and
Northeastern Ontario has resulted in mid summer like weather for the
beginning of fall. Temperatures exceeded the 30 C mark in many
areas, with many new maximum temperature records set for Saturday
September 23.
