A few words from the bug people at Entomica

John Dedesknows his bugs and he knows, like humans, insects need care too. Entomica located at the Mill Market is hoping the public will support a first ever fundraising event to keep this educational and fun experience continuing.

Entomica, Sault Ste. Marie’s Insectarium need your help.

As most of you know Entomica was originally proposed to be a part of the St. Mary’s Paper repurposing project and we opened at the Millmarket site in June 2014 as a trial run for one month.  Our little bug zoo was very successful, seeing thousands of visitors and students in during this first month and was embraced by our community such that we are still open today. Our programming has brought us national acclaim and several awards for engaging, entertaining and educating all ages of our community including seniors.

We no longer have our original benefactors- sponsors- investors and in January 2017 we became a non-for-profit (NFP) organization. Unfortunately, we are limited to applying for many potential grants and funding sources to help us deliver our mandate and to feed our bugs because most funding sources require that we have been operating as a NFP for a least one year. Although we are almost there we are looking for support from our community to get us through the next few months. This is the first time we have reached out in such a way.

We are hosting a fund-raising pasta dinner at the Grand Gardens Downtown banquet hall with a silent auction filled with generous gifts from local businesses, door prize giveaways for 1 year family passes that also allow the recipients unlimited  visits to almost 30 other national science centres including Science North and the Ontario Science Centre and or course we are bringing  our spectacular displays and captivating critters.

Help us to keep our little insectarium here in Sault Ste. Marie around  for many more years.
