In December 2016, members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Services Technological Crimes Unit initiated an investigation into the distribution of child pornography on the internet.
On several occasions between December 2016 and August 2017, a suspect computer was identified as making child abuse images available to others on the internet.
In September 2017, a search warrant was executed at a downtown Sault Ste. Marie address and a number of electronic devices seized including 2 computers and a portable hard drive.
As a result of the investigation, on Thursday October 19, 2017, investigators arrested 30 year old Ryan Joseph Lewis of Goulais River Ontario. He has been charged with
2 Counts of Possession of Child Pornography; and,
2 counts of Make Available Child Pornography
He will appear in court on November 6th, 2017.
