UPDATE: Serious Collision on Trunk Road at Highway 17

UPDATE 3:30 PM The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to advise the public that the intersection of Trunk Road and Highway 17 East is now fully open.  As the intersection was closed for several hours, traffic is backed up in both directions and is moving very slowly.  Officers will remain on scene as the traffic clears.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are currently at the scene of a significant motor vehicle collision on Trunk Road near Highway 17 East.

We ask that member of the public avoid this area and use alternate routes to get to their destinations in order to allow emergency services personnel to safely work in the area.  More information will be released when it becomes available.

  1. That highway needs to connect at Second line as originally planned. All of these accidents never would have happened. Who is to blame for this major flub?

    • Having it connect to Second line will not prevent all accidents, drivers need to slow down and be patient while turning. its not a race, be aware of all vehicles surround you coming from each direction. Everyone is too busy rushing that no one pays attention.
