MP Sheehan took up duties this week as the new Chair for Northern Ontario Caucus. Meeting weekly when the House of Commons is in session, the Northern Ontario Caucus members work together on issues identified as priorities such as: jobs and the economy, skills training, affordable housing, transit, infrastructure projects and improving quality of care for seniors in Northern Ontario.
Sheehan said, “Let me first thank my fellow Northern Ontario colleagues for their vote of confidence, I am very much looking forward to my new role as Chair. For the riding of
Sault Ste. Marie to be successful, a strong Northern Ontario community with shared priorities is key. Working together and maintaining communication has proven highly successful for our region over the past two years and I’m eager to continue advancing our priorities as Chair of Northern Ontario Caucus.”
With an education background in political science and business, followed by a successful career in both the public and private sectors in business, municipal politics as well as community and economic development, Sheehan hopes to take his experiences and further develop advocacy of Northern Ontario on a federal level.
“Focusing on the needs of our communities and businesses not only locally, but across the northern Ontario region as well, strengthens and increases our accomplishments overall,” Sheehan said.
Sheehan remains co-Chair of the All-Party Steel Caucus and the Canada-Japan Inter-Parliamentary Group and is a member of the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology.
