Police initiate traffic stop, find over $5000 in stolen goods

On November 14th, 2017 officers with the Break and Enter Unit of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 28 year old James Bolan of John Street for possession of stolen property.

On November 14th, officers observed the accused operating a motor vehicle on First Avenue.  Officers knew the accused’s driver’s licence was suspended and as such initiated a traffic stop.

The accused stopped and ran from the vehicle.  He then locked himself inside of another vehicle that was parked nearby.  The accused then used a pipe to consume a substance believed to be crack cocaine inside of that vehicle.  Officers were able to get the accused out of the vehicle and he was placed in custody.

Upon his arrest the accused was found to be in possession of an additional small amount of crack cocaine and various pieces of stolen property with a value exceeding $5,000.   The accused was also found to be in possession of a single 12 gauge shotgun shell and at the time was bound by an order stating that he is not to possess any weapons or ammunition.

The accused has been charged with one count of possession of stolen property, one count of possession of a controlled substance, one count of breach of probation and one count of possession of ammunition contrary to a court order.  He was held for bail court.

Included in the seized property were a variety of items that officers are attempting to locate owners for.

These items include; cordless power tools, saws, shovels, concrete tools, various collector coins both domestic and international, a new chainsaw, cordless vacuums, ratchet sets, various drill bits of various brands (Milwaukee, Ryobi, Mastercraft, Dewalt, Skil, Black and Decker etc.), numerous hand tools, air nailers, and heavy duty/industrial extension cords
