Sault Rotaract Holiday Care Packs

0

There are so many everyday accessories and toiletries we take for granted – simple things like soap, shampoo, and deodorant. For people in shelters across Sault Ste. Marie, having access to items like these can make a huge difference in providing them with a greater sense of self-worth, and giving them a hand up during a hard time. This little bit of support could even open a door that will give them a chance to get a job or give them a fresh start to a new life.

For the fourth holiday season in a row, Sault Rotaract – a service club for 18-30 year olds, focusing on community and international service as well as professional development – will be making care packs for shelters around Sault Ste. Marie.

Each care pack will start with a sturdy backpack that can be used when they leave the shelter, and will contain a variety of hygiene, entertainment and comfort items. We come to you, as a community leader, hoping you will support us with a contribution toward this project.

Items  needed:

Entertainment:
o Books
o Magazines
o Puzzle Books
o Playing Cards
Hygiene and Personal Care Items:
o New/Gently Used Backpacks
o Shampoo
o Body Wash/Soap
o Toothbrushes/Toothpaste
o Deodorant
o Nail clippers/Manicure sets
o Hair Brushes
o Kleenex (travel sized packs)
o Lip Balm
o First Aid Kits
Comfort Items:
o Socks
o Hats/Mitts
o Backpacks

Our goal is to pack more than the 79 backpacks we were able to deliver last year.
We have arranged for community drop box locations at the Rotary Office (364 Queen Street East), or I am willing to pick up any donations (within city limits) for any individuals in the community who can help with a donation of a lightly used backpack, or new and unopened hygiene items. Organizations that choose to participate will be recognized in media releases regarding the project. Additionally, each pack will have a tag or card that lists the names of the generous sponsors (both individuals and organizations) that helped complete the care packs. We are hoping to have donations in by December 11th.

We are also able to accept monetary contributions toward purchasing items for the packs. We can also issue charitable receipts for donations of $20 or more. For charitable receipts, cheques must be made out to “Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie”. Please contact Lyndsay at 705-206-2438 if you need any more information about this, or have items to pick up.

We hope you will consider supporting us in this project to help make the holiday season a little brighter for people in need across Sault Ste. Marie.
